On Sunday, April 15th Del-Tone/Luth Gun Club will be holding two Lewis Class Jackpot Shoots on the same day. Indicating once again that we are all about “Fun” at Del-Tone/Luth Gun Range!!

The first Jackpot will consist of 12 pair of doubles (24 targets), 26 skeet and 50 5-stand targets for a 100 bird event. The classes will be determined by the number of shooters and the scores shot. Last year, a ringer showed up, Ray Steffenson, and won the shoot with a score of 95 which I believe that might stand for awhile. The cost of this even is $34.00 with $4.00 of each entry going back into the Lewis Pot. Shooter can enter as many times as he/she would like.

The second Jackpot Event is going to be a 100 target 16yd event. Non-Registered targets where an individual can come out, shoot some targets, get back into the swing of things in case he/she hasn’t shot much during the winter months while not spending a lot of money and yet have a chance to win some of that money back. We’ll even let you choose what time you want to shoot just in case the sun might not be at the right angle in the sky for your liking!! Yea Baby!!! The cost of this event is $24.00 with $4.00 of each entry going back into the Lewis Pot. Shooter can enter as many times as he/she would like.

Shooting Starts at 10:00AM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Free coffee, doughnuts and lunch will be available for shooters of both events.

At our Trap League Captains meeting on Monday, April 9th the top topic of the evening was requiring all teams with 10 members to shoot in the National League. After much discussion, it was apparent this new rule will work for some teams, but not others. So, it was agreed to by all captains and members present, that any team with 10 members in either the American or Western Leagues will be required to have 2 shooters per week not have their score count towards the team total for that week. The two shooters will be picked randomly from a set of numbers appointed before the summer league starts. It will work as follows: Week one the set numbers are 2 & 6, this will mean that shooters #2 and #6, listed on the team roster, scores will not count for the teams total number for that week. This will hopefully make it fairer for the teams with only 7 or 8 members and it eliminates teams choosing the same two shooters week after week who's score they will not use.

It was also agreed that every team in all Divisions will have the first three weeks to get their first three rounds/scores in. This will allow new teams to enter the league after the start date without forfeiting any scores and give all shooters a few extra weeks in case bad weather moves into the area. With this new rule, everyone has until Sunday, May 6th to get their teams first 3 weeks of scores in without being penalized.

We hope you all had a wonderful winter and your getting excited to come out to the club and shoot some clays. This year some changes in the way we run our Trap Shooting League are going to take place which I hope makes it a more fun and competitive league. I feel the league has become pretty predictable and stagnant and feel the changes need to take place to give every team a chance to win their division. These changes will be implemented in the number of shooters each team will be required/allowed to have, in the scoring system and in that fact individuals will now be allowed to shoot on more then one team in the same league. The handicap system currently in place for each shooter will remain the same as in the past.

SHOOTING ON MORE THEN ONE TEAM PER LEAGUE

The first issue I’d like to address is the change in the rule of allowing an individual to shoot on more then one team in the same league. After shooting in this league for the past two years, there is nobody, and I mean nobody, that’s going to make me believe that any shooter will purposely tank a score to ensure one team will win over another. I believe each shooter goes out there every week, every round and shoots as best as he or she can. Hopefully everyone agrees.

NUMBER OF SHOOTERS PER TEAM - NATIONAL DIVISIONS

The second issue I’d like to address is the number of shooters allowed on a team. For the past two summers, I’ve had several individuals come talk to me about how they feel it’s an unfair advantage for one team with 10 shooters to continually shoot against teams that have only 6 or 7 shooters. After watching the scores and outcomes for two years, it’s pretty obvious there is an advantage. I’ve given this issue a lot of thought as I realize we have teams that have 10 members who have been shooting together for years. I will not break these teams up or make anyone have to make a decision on who gets to shoot on the team this year and who has to find another team. I also realize there are teams who can only find 6 or 7 shooters to shoot or only have 6 or 7 shooters show up on a weekly basis.

Therefore, this year the “National League” will consist of only teams with 9 or more members. It’s the only fair solution that I can come up with to give all teams a fair chance to win. Right now we have Kosiba & Company, Del-Tone/Luth, KFC and RnL

with 10 member teams. I’m hoping with the fact a shooter can now shoot on more then one team per division, we’ll possibly be able to add at least two more teams and have a more competitive and interesting year.

NUMBERS OF SHOOTERS PER TEAM - AMERICAN & WESTERN DIVISONS

The “American” and “Western” Divisions will now be for 7 to 8 member teams only. No teams, who originally sign up with more then 8 members, will be allowed in either division. Teams in these two divisions will continue to be placed according to their shooting ability and we’ll use last years scoring to place teams when possible. With any new teams or shooters, we can only hope they’ll be truthful about their shooting abilities and place them accordingly. Once again, if a shooter wants to shoot on more then one team per league, they will be allowed too. As previously stated, I’m hoping this new rule will develop more teams and more fun.

NEW SCORING SYSTEM FOR 2012

The third and final issue I would like to address is the NEW SCORING SYSTEM. The system will work as follows: All teams within a certain division will shoot against every other team of that division each week. There will be no more schedule of one team shooting against another team. If you have 5 teams in a division, top scoring team of each week will receive 8 points, second highest scoring team will receive 6 points, third highest scoring team will receive 4 points, fourth highest scoring team will receive 2 points and last place scoring team will receive no points. In case of a tie, teams will divide the points for places shot. Example, if two teams tie for second and third highest scores, they will divide the 10 points and receive 5 points each, (6 points for second + 4 points for third = 10 divided by two = 5) After the first half of the season is over, all teams will start the second half at 0. This new scoring system will allow every team of each division to have a chance to win that division no matter how far behind they may fall. Once again, I’m trying to get more competition into our league which in return should mean more fun and more interest throughout our league season.

LEAGUE START DATE

The 2012 Trap League will start on Monday, April 23rd and run to the week of Monday, September 3rd. This is a 20 week schedule with the first half ending on Monday, June 25th. I realize the Monday, September 3rd is Labor Day, but please remember everyone will have till Sunday, September 9th to get their weekly score in if they haven’t already shot ahead. We will once again allow shooters to shoot from a scheduled Monday to the following Sunday to get their score in for that particular week. Example: A shooter will have from Monday, April 23rd to Sunday, April 29th to get their score recorded for the first week of league. A shooter will once again be allowed to shoot up to 4 weeks ahead in the schedule. No shooter will be able to shoot behind to record a score. Since there are only two holidays, (Memorial Day & Labor Day), that fall during our league and each shooter has the option to shoot ahead and also has from Monday to Sunday to get their scores in, there will be no need to have any “Double Headers” this year. This type of flexible schedule is hopefully making it easier for all shooters to get their rounds in and have a more enjoyable and relaxing summer. I would like to get suggestions of when the shooters of the league would like to schedule the Divisional Shoot-Offs and “Fun Day” at the end of the season.

CAPTAINS MEETING

Our 2012 Captains Meeting is scheduled to take place on Monday, April 9th at 6:00 PM. Everyone is Welcome and encouraged to come to the meeting to voice their opinions on the changes taking place within our Trap League or suggest additional changes. Sponsorship for Trap Teams this year will be $110.00 for sponsorship of teams.

INDIVIDUALS LOOKING TO FIND A TEAM

On Sunday, March 11th at Del-Tone/Luth we had a ringer come up to the club from down south, as in southern Minneapolis. His name is Jimmy Bowen and I’m getting just a little tired of him coming up here winning all of our hard earned money! Mr. Bowen, showed up pretty much after everyone else was wrapping it up and putting their guns away. Being that we’re “Minnesota Nice” at Del-Tone, we all thought we’d help old Jimmy out and go out and shoot a couple more rounds as it was such a nice day. Well guess what, in return of our generosity, Jimmy walked out there and ran’em. That’s right, put his gun together, walked out there and put a score of 50x50 on the big score board. We had the Del-Tone’s famous southern wind blowing, I had my pet deer running around the field in front of the traps so the shooters had to stop and let them get out of the way and nothing bothered Ol’ Jimmy. He just stood there unfazed and crushed targets. So with great pain, I have to say “Nice Shooting My Friend”!!! For his efforts Jimmy received a nice crisp $100 bill, the Lewis Class money, Free donuts, Free Lunch and a package of Blueberry Wild Rice Bratwurst.

PS: Every shooter gets to enjoy the donuts, lunch and coffee at Del-Tone/Luth!!

On a side note, the Del-Tone/Luth Gun Range will be hosting the 29th Annual ATA Viking Shoot Saturday, June 2nd and Sunday, June 3rd, so each shooter will be able to test their new found knowledge in a competitive atmosphere if they so choose.

A brief History of Dan Bonillas’s Trapshooting Achievements:

Dan Bonillas was 20 years old when he began shooting trap in 1967. He was named to the All-America team for the first time five years later and remained an All-American for 22 straight years, earning captain positions in 1967, 80, and ‘83, and co-captaincies in 1975, 78, 79, and ‘81.

Dan has earned 56 Grand American trophies, captured four Spring Grand titles, amassed 30 Golden West Grand crowns, and won 13 Western Division (Zone) and 21 California state championships. He set records in the Grand American High-Over-All and All-Around, turned in association-leading averages 19 times, qualified for 18 consecutive Trap & Field All-Around Average Awards.

Bonillas headed A.T.A. yearly handicap averages on six occasions between 1975 and 1988, with his .9515 on 8,000 targets in 1977 setting a record. All marks were from 27 yards.

No one has headed yearly doubles averages more than Bonillas. He has topped the list 13 times since 1974, and he set records of .9795 on 4,100 targets in 1974, .9800 on 5,050 in 1981, .9802 on 4,250 the following season and .9866 on 2,250 in 1984.

Among his 18 consecutive Trap & Field All-Around Average Awards starting in 1973, 13 were for first place — 1974 through 1980, 1982, 1984, and 1988.

Career total is over 200 – 100 straights in doubles, more than any other shooter in history. He also had eighty 200x200 singles scores (including 26 at the Grand American), plus 52 between total between ATA and PITA 100 straights from the 27 yard line (second in lifetime standings).

Dan was inducted into the California Trapshooting Hall of Fame in 1990.

This notice is to inform you on our NEW LOWER PRICING for the 2012 Rifle/Pistol/Archery Range Memberships, some new procedures we had to implement at the range and some new ways on trying to save shooters money throughout the year.

This year our New Individual Membership will be $109.00 and our Renewal Individual Membership will be $99.00. Our New Family Membership will be $169.00 while our Renewal Family Membership will be $159.00. This is a $20.00 reduction on the New Individual, New Family and Family Renewal Memberships form our 2011 pricing.

New to this year's annual Rifle/Pistol/Archery Range Memberships will be a 5% Discount on all ammunition purchased at the Del-Tone/Luth Gun Range and a $10.00 Discount off of a Permit To Carry Class held at the Del-Tone/Luth Gun Range.

Our Individual and Family Membership Badges will be different colors this year to help our Range Safety Officers check members in and out of the range in a more efficient manner. Unfortunately, due to some unforeseen circumstances, we will require all members to show a form of identification when entering the range. We realize this is an inconvenience to our members, however it has come to our attention that some members in the past have been loaning their badges to friends in order for them to be able to shoot at the rifle/pistol range. We appreciate your cooperation and understanding in this matter.

There will be a minimal increase to our Public Daily rate at the range for 2012. The cost of a Daily Pass for 2012 will be $14.97 plus tax which will total $16.00. This rate is good for the entire day of purchase and there will be no limit on the guns a shooter can bring. Lady and Youth Rates will remain the same as 2011.

New to the Rifle/Pistol Range this year will be a 5 Punch Range Card available to the public shooter. This card will allow a shooter to buy a pre-paid 5-Punch Card for $70.00 which amounts to a $10.00 Savings on the normal daily rate for five days ($16.00 x 5 = $80.00) Shooters who choose to purchase this card, will still be required to check in at the clubhouse.

As always, management at the Del-Tone/Luth Gun Range appreciates everyone's business and support. We hope that by lowering our Prices for the 2012 Rifle/Pistol/Archery Memberships and offering the New Punch Card to the Public Shooter that we can continue to grow the shooting community.

Del-Tone/Luth Gun Range.

What a Fantastic weekend at Del-Tone/Luth Gun Range for the 1st Independence Classic. We had some great weather, great food, great targets and great shooters.

Saturday mornings shooting activities started after a short delay due to a Big Dog, no names will be mentioned, backing over a water faucet in the camp ground area. However, once that situation was fixed, the shooting started and High scores started coming in. In the singles event Glen Linden won Class AA with a 100x100 after a Carry-Over with Scott Gens. Class A was won by Claude Banyai with a 99x100, Class B was won by Scott Morton with a 97x100, Class C was won by Loren Hentges with a 97x100, Class D was won by Nancy Rawerts with a 91x100, Veteran Class was won by Alex Kotter with a 99x100 and Lukas Peterson won Junior Class with a 98x100.

The two handicap events in the afternoon, with the top total score winning a New Remington 870 Remington Express Super Mag 12 gauge Shotgun, again brought in some outstanding scores. In the first event, Cory Olson won the Short Yardage with a score of 96X100 and Troy Haverly won the Long Yardage with score of 98x100. In the second Handicap Event, Troy Smith won the Short Yardage with a 98x100 and Scott Gens won the Long Yardage with a 97x100.

The Big Prize of the Day, the 870 Remington Mag Shotgun, was won by Mr. Scott Gens with a score of 194x200.

Day two started with a beautiful Minnesota morning and the scores once again came in on the high side. My good friend Jim Walkowiak, (also known as Jimmy or Jimmy Bowen), won Class AA with a 100x100, Alex Kotter won class A with a score of 97x100, Loren Hentges won Class B with a 92x100, Jeff Branlick won Class C with a score of 95x100, Cynthia Ellis won Class D with a score of 90x100 and John Houle Sr won Veteran Class with a score of 98x100.

Event 5, (100 Handicap), and Event 6, (100 Handicap), with the top score of the two events winning a NEW DPMS Panther 7.63 Oracle AC 16” Rifle, were shot in almost ideal weather. In Event 5, Michael Hagemann won Short Yardage with a score of 97x100, after a Carry Over with Bob Smith, and Alex Steffens won Long Yardage with a score of 98x100. After shooting the 98, I had the honor of punching Alex's card where he went from the 26 to the 27 yard Line for the first time!!!! Congratulations Alex!!!!!!!!! In Event 6, Jeff Branlick won Short Yardage with a 97x100 and Troy Haverly won Long Yardage with a 99x100. Yep, 99x100!!!!

So after all the dust had settled, Troy Haverly and Eric Munson tied in the two handicap events with the top total score of 192x200 for the DPMS Rifle. The rifle was eventually won by Troy, (boy I hate typing this), by a flip of a coin. Great Shooting Guys and Congrats Troy!!!

Then came the $1,000.00 Special Shoot Off for the Top 5 Scores of the 2 day, 400 handicap total. The shooters who made it to the shoot off were Scott Gens 384x400, Troy Haverly 380x400, Troy Smith 377x400, Mark Zauhar 373x400 and Tylor Steffens 372x400. Scott Gens won the shot-off with a 24x25, Mark Zarhur/Troy Haverly tied for second and third with a score of 23x25 and Troy Smith/Taylor Steffens tied for fourth and fifth with 22x25. Troy Haverly won the 2nd and 3rd place shoot off 24x25 over Mark 22x25.

I would PERSONALLY like to “THANK”, everyone who came out to Del-Tone/Luth Gun Range this 4th of July Weekend to participate in this shoot. I would also like to "THANK" my trappers who once again did a fantastic job which enabled the shoot to run so smoothly and John Houle for donating the $1,000 for the Added Money!!! P.S. Things are currently in the works to have another great shoot next year!!!!!!!

Thanks Again and Good Luck to All The Shooters Attending this Years Minnesota State Shoot July 5th thru July 10th!!!!!!!!!!!!
